Since 2019, the cultivation of industrial hemp as a catch crop has been officially approved in Germany. Hemp is ideal as a catch crop because it improves soil structure, effectively suppresses weeds and also provides a yield – as it can be harvested as a catch crop.
The chopped hemp straw remains on the field and protects against erosion. As it is not related to the subsequent summer crop, there is also no risk of plant diseases being transmitted.
According to the information sheet issued by the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food, the cultivation notification must be submitted by 1 July of the cultivation year at the latest. If industrial hemp is sown as a catch crop after this date, the official labels must be submitted to the Federal Agency by 1 September of the same year.
For intercropping, we recommend the USO 31 variety, which we can offer you at particularly attractive conditions.
